From Mid-Life to New-Life
Finding Your Soul … The Upside of Divorce
Across the globe, throughout various cultures and staring at you in that bathroom mirror, is a Baby Boomer suffering from an affliction within.
Your youthful conviction and vitality has been replaced by cynical pessimism and a growing sense of hostility and disaffection.
“Work hard”, they all said “And success will soon follow”. Well, let me tell you (like you don’t already know) … It’s a damn lie.
You slowly begin to turn numb when all your optimistic dreams are shoved so deep within your psyche, that they’re buried beyond the reach of any plausible possibilities your imagination can muster.
The only place you feel remotely “neutral” is lounging on the deck with a belly full of beer and a glowing shield of inebriation insulating you from any emotional attachment to your present circumstances.
Hard work, my friend, is NOT the crucial factor that determines your destiny.
LIFE CHANGING EVENTS that appear out of the blue and suddenly land on you like a ton of bricks: ARE.
For me it was divorce.
For you, it could be losing your job, facing a challenging diagnosis, losing a loved one or as simple as busting a shoelace. However your own personal “disaster” is defined for you is the critical circumstance that will send your life on a crash course toward your ultimate destiny. And that’s a good thing.
Because then and only then, does it become clear. Working hard doesn’t realize your dreams. Finding GRATITUDE does!
WHAT!!? GRATITUDE? What the hell does gratitude have to do with anything?
It means EVERYTHING!!
One minute you scarcely notice children’s laughter. Are annoyed by cheerful morning greetings. Scoff at tree huggers and health nuts. Roll your eyes at public displays of affection and turn politely away from charitable opportunities.
The next minute you’re hit with that ton of bricks and your left pondering what happened to the person you thought you were going to be?
What happened to all those years wasted with either your nose to the grindstone or your butt on a barstool? Where did those grand notions and solutions go that needed to be shared with the rest of the world? Were they stored somewhere to be retrieved at the most opportune moment that has never materialized? Or have they been forgotten? Or does it matter anymore?
Suddenly you find yourself gazing in the rearview mirror and realize you’re left with a pathetic legacy of futile effort, squandered opportunity and misguided involvement in the race toward oblivion.
You will never, ever, see the truth of your situation more clearly than during this time of personal crisis. And trust me, in hindsight, there will never be a time in your life where you’ll be more GRATEFUL to the universe for finally awakening your consciousness to the opportunities of change. As long as you recognize it for what it is meant to be: A bittersweet tragedy that propels you from your Mid-life to a New-life.
As soon as you’ve recognized a semblance of gratitude gently grow from this personal tragic experience, your glorious journey has begun. When you can be grateful for the lessons bestowed upon us from tragedy, imagine how easy it will become to be grateful for the finer things in your life. The sun on your face, the evening sunset. The passage of a single day. The rain that nurtures the soil. And the tears that stimulate your soul.
I can say with utmost sincerity that when you learn to find a true sense of gratitude, it will change your life forever.
Remember Christmas when you were a kid? That magical morning when you awoke and rushed down toward the tree? Imagine if every day you could feel the same way.
Imagine feeling the energy, motivation and sheer joy of finding yourself in the best health of your life. All this by uncovering the GRATITUDE within you.
Imagine being retired and looking around you with tearful satisfaction at the legacy you’ve created. At the children and grandchildren who love and admire you and want to be just like you.
If a doctor could write you a prescription for INFINITE GRATITUDE how much would you pay to have that prescription filled?
